Welcome back to the blog guys! I'm not sure if I'm a "beauty" blogger or a makeup packaging blogger. 😝 A little of both I guess. I don't just enjoy learning about new products and trying out new products, but I love looking at makeup packaging, too. I guess it all just feels like art to me and I love it!
I'm really trying to space out my ColourPop posts, but if it's a good brand and a great product, why not talk about it?! So I'll do my best not to put all of my ColourPop posts out at once, but I've got quite a few coming and I really do enjoy their products. Today I'm sharing the 16 pan ColourPop Fortune palette!
Unfortunately, because it has taken me so long to get around to getting my makeup posts up, some of the products have been discontinued. So although you cannot get the Fortune palette from ColourPop's website, you can check out places like Mercari or Poshmark for new or gently used makeup - if you feel like it! If not, enjoy these product photos and let me know what you have in your collection that may be similar!
Let's jump in and take a look at this cute packaging!
For their 4th Birthday Collection in 2018, ColourPop designed products around a carnival theme. If you're not familiar with ColourPop, you should know that they don't just focus on the quality of their product, but also creating quality, adorable, cohesive packing for their products as well. (Which I'm sure you've heard me rave about once or twice on the blog.) The total collection included two 16 pan eyeshadow palettes, three face duos, 16 Ultra Glossy Lips, and 14 Lux lipsticks. These were the first 16 pan palettes that ColourPop had come out with. Fame & Fortune are "sister" palettes and when you place them next to each other the packaging creates a full carnival scene. Cute & clever!
This palette's packaging is a sturdy cardboard with a magnetic closure. The palette's main package is matte purple with white stars all over it as well as peach and light pink details on the front. It also features metallic pink accents throughout and the details are incredible! From the popcorn cart and it's little cartons, to the string fairy lights, and the carousel animals! This design is whimsical and cute and they've knocked it out of the park, per usual.
Fortune is one of ColourPop's first 16 pan palettes. They currently have three 16 pan palettes available on their website. Fortune is the warm palette out of the two they released for their birthday collection in 2018. It has a fairly even mix of matte and metallic/satin shades for a variety of looks. There would probably be fairly limited neutral looks for people that don't enjoy shimmer shades, though. Only three of the mattes are in that neutral category. The rest of the palette is very warm and purple toned, but has some gorgeous metallic shades to spice up any look you create with this palette.
Overall the palette performs fairly well. The mattes seem to be a touch on the dry side, which means it can take a little working with when blending them out. They are pretty pigmented shadows too, so you'll really want to take your time to build them up. The darker shades, Riche, 500, Trove and Fortunate are a little more chalky than the others. The matte shadow that seems to be the driest is Trove, which crumbles when finger swatching. Strike It also crumbles, but it swatches better than Trove. Again, if you work slowly to build these shades up you won't have too many issues. Just don't start in with a lot of shadow on your brush and you'll be good!
Your metallics and satins in this palette are really your show stoppers! They have beautiful pigment and payoff in one finger swatch and look stunning applied wet or dry on the lids. I wouldn't say these are creamy, though. They do have a little fallout and Miser, the duochrome shade, is quite soft and crumbly when finger swatching. There's a nice range of tones and colors which makes it a versatile palette to get a wide variety of looks! When looking at the palette a lot of the shades may look pretty similar and lackluster, but I promise once you swatch them and get a feel for what they look like outside of the palette, it really gets the creative juices flowing. I definitely need to spend more time with this palette. I plan on creating a YouTube video of multiple looks from this one palette.
Let me know what you guys think about this palette! Do you gravitate to color stories like this? Would you like to see makeup looks featuring this palette? Be sure to check out my YouTube channel for future videos using this palette and other ColourPop products!
